Exhaled Carbon Monoxide (eCO) Testing and Smoking-Cessation Monitoring Solutions
Based on high-precision electrochemical carbon monoxide sensors — objective quantification for smoking cessation, tobacco exposure assessment and tobacco-control programs
Industry Overview
Tobacco smoke exposure is one of the leading preventable risk factors for chronic disease and premature death worldwide. Exhaled carbon monoxide (eCO) testing is a recommended method for assessing tobacco smoke exposure: exhaled CO concentrations in smokers are typically far higher than in non-smokers and fall rapidly after quitting, making eCO one of the most direct and objective biomarkers of smoking status and quitting progress.
Traditional cessation support relies on self-reporting, which suffers from poor compliance and makes relapse hard to detect. eCO breath testing requires only a single exhalation of a few seconds to deliver a quantitative result in ppm, and is widely used in cessation clinics, community tobacco-control programs and occupational health screening as a standardized tool for tobacco dependence assessment and follow-up.
Based on vacuum-coated precious-metal electrodes and electrochemical sensing technology, Huili Biotech provides OEM/ODM customization of carbon monoxide breath analyzers and CO sensing electrode modules, enabling customers to build high-precision, low-power exhaled-CO testing products quickly.
Technical Solutions
1. Electrochemical CO Sensing Electrodes (Three-Electrode System)
A three-electrode architecture with working, reference and counter electrodes. The working electrode carries a precious-metal catalytic layer (gold or platinum) deposited by magnetron sputtering, delivering high catalytic activity and long-term stability for CO oxidation, with output current linear to CO concentration in the ppm range.
2. Magnetron-Sputtered Precious-Metal Films
The vacuum magnetron sputtering process produces dense, uniform catalytic films with strong adhesion and excellent batch-to-batch consistency, ensuring sensor sensitivity, repeatability and lifetime at mass-production scale.
3. Anti-Interference and Low-Power Design
Selective catalytic formulations and filter membranes reduce cross-interference from gases such as alcohol and hydrogen in exhaled breath; microamp-level operating current and fast-response circuitry meet the battery-powered, instant-reading needs of portable devices.
